Why Work With Me?

First and foremost, I care about people, especially the clients I work with. My goal is to come along side you and help you reach the goals that you have set out to achieve. Don’t have any? Let’s sit down and come up with some. When appropriate, we will look at the deeper things that may be getting in the way of achieving those goals. In my experience the deeper work is where other life coaches are at a disadvantage. Life coaches typically do not have the training or expertise to look for and challenge core beliefs. Core beliefs are like the concrete foundation of a house. If the foundation is not straight and true, then the house can never stand correctly.

Before I share the quantitative reasons for you to choose to work with me, allow me to share one more qualitative reason. As a person of Faith, I have worked in several Christian environments and have seen thousands of clients who consider Faith an integral piece of their development. If faith is important to you and you would like to integrate it into our time together, please let me know.

A bit about me. During college I worked with Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children for about 5 years. This led me to get my B.S. in Child and Family Development. Soon thereafter, I received my M.A. in Marriage & Family Therapy. Before and after getting Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) I worked with diverse clienteles in many different settings. I have had tens of thousands of sessions with clients over the 20+ years I have been a therapist. I am comfortable and experienced with most problem areas from the needs of the individual to the interpersonal struggles in the marital relationship. I have been better trained and have more experience than most life coaches.

If you are familiar with the different treatment modalities or if you want to look them up, my preferred treatment methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused when appropriate with individuals and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples with a little crossover.

On a personal note, I have been married for 30+ years and have a son who recently graduated from college. I have had the opportunity to see on a personal level how beneficial it is to continually be growing and developing as a person.

Why did I choose the life coach direction? The reasons are many but there are two that stand out as I think about it. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), if the client moves out of state, then you can no longer see them as a client. The client would then have to go through the work of finding a new therapist that they connect with and tell their story all over again. Also, if a client goes out of state for vacation, then they cannot be seen except under special circumstances. This means that college students that go out of state and businesspeople that travel will have difficulty finding consistency in treatment. In my opinion, this does a disservice to those I work with. The second reason is that to be seen and reimbursed by insurance a diagnosis has to be made and assigned to the client. What if the client does not have a diagnoseable condition and just needs help in an area of life? Also, insurance may not cover couple’s therapy. Our primary relationship can have a huge impact on our mental state. As a life coach neither of these restrictions apply.
