Why Work With Me?

First and foremost, I care about people, especially the clients I work with. My goal is to come along side you and help you reach the goals that you have set out to achieve. When appropriate, we will look at the deeper things that may be getting in the way of achieving those goals. In my experience this is where other life coaches are at a disadvantage. Life coaches typically do not have the training or expertise to look for and challenge core beliefs. Core beliefs are like the concrete foundation of a house. If the foundation is not straight and true, then the house can never stand correctly.

Before I share the quantitative reasons for you to choose to work with me, allow me to share one more qualitative reason. As a person of Faith, I have worked in several Christian environments and seen thousands of clients who consider Faith an integral piece of their development. If faith is important to you and you would like to integrate it into our time together, please let me know.

Now for the less interesting but validating part, my experience and training. During college I worked with Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children for about 5 years. This led me to get my B.S. in Child and Family Development. Soon thereafter, I received my M.A. in Marriage & Family Therapy. Before and after getting Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) I worked with diverse clienteles in many different settings. Having had 10,000 plus sessions with clients over the 20+ years I have been doing counseling as a therapist, I am comfortable and experienced with most problem areas. To say the least, I am better trained and have more experience than the average life coach.

If you are familiar with the different treatment modalities or if you want to look them up, my preferred treatment methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with individuals and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples with a little crossover here and there. On a personal note, I have been married for 30 years and have a son who is in college currently.

Why did I choose the life coach direction? The reasons are many but there are two that stand out as I think about it. As an MFT, if your client moves out of state, then you can no longer see them as a client. The client would have to go through the work of finding a new therapist that they connect with and tell their story all over again. Also, if a client goes out of state for vacation, then they cannot be seen except under special circumstances. The second reason is that to be seen and reimbursed by insurance a diagnosis has to be made and assigned to the client. What if the client does not have a diagnoseable condition and just needs help in an area of life? Insurance also does not usually cover couples therapy, which is just as important and helpful. As a life coach neither of these restrictions apply.
